Schaffhausen hospitals join forces with Hirslanden in cardiac medicine

Media release from 17.02.2021

From March 2021, Spitäler Schaffhausen will be working with Hirslanden in the field of cardiac medicine, thus providing the population of the canton of Schaffhausen with extended, high-quality care close to home and access to the Hirslanden Group’s medical network.

The aim of the cooperation is to further improve outpatient and inpatient medical care for the population of Schaffhausen in the field of cardiac medicine. To this end, Spitäler Schaffhausen is investing in a state-of-the-art catheter laboratory and an upgrade of the existing CT scanner at the cantonal hospital in Schaffhausen. Together with MRI diagnostics and echocardiography, this will create a center for imaging procedures in the field of cardiac medicine. These steps will make it possible to carry out extensive outpatient diagnostic examinations in future. At the same time, the possibility of invasive cardiology procedures at the Kantonsspital Schaffhausen is also opening up.

The Hirslanden Heart Clinic will provide the specialists required for this, who will now only work in Schaffhausen or at both locations – both at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich and in Schaffhausen. Patients in Schaffhausen will thus benefit from a broad range of examinations and treatments in the field of cardiac medicine by proven specialists from Klinik Hirslanden and Spitäler Schaffhausen close to home.

Patients who require cardiac surgery or more complex invasive cardiology procedures will in future receive priority treatment at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich. Follow-up care will again be provided at the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen. In this way, the cooperation partners will ensure high-quality cardiology and cardiac surgery care for patients in Schaffhausen across the entire diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum. Arend Wilpshaar, Chairman of the Executive Board of Spitäler Schaffhausen, emphasizes: “With this collaboration, we are further strengthening healthcare provision for the regional population.” He adds: “Cooperation in this area not only brings benefits in terms of regional healthcare, but also helps to ensure the highest possible quality against the backdrop of cost trends in the healthcare sector.”

Dr. Stephan Pahls, Chief Operating Officer East of the Hirslanden Group, says: “We are very much looking forward to this further collaboration with the hospitals in Schaffhausen, after we already announced our cooperation in urology in September. It shows once again that cross-institutional cooperation can promote high-quality, integrated medical care and create real added value for patients.”
