Prevention and
check-up

The aim of preventive examinations is to identify risk situations in good time.

Prevention

Anyone with a family history (mainly first-degree relatives such as parents, siblings or biological children) of premature cardiovascular disease (< 60 years old) or sudden and unexplained death can benefit from a preventive check-up.

Regardless of the family history, a preventive check-up can be useful if there are risk factors for the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, severe kidney failure, nicotine consumption).

In this case, please ask your GP for a referral so that the costs of the check-up can be covered by your health insurance.

Check-Up

Irrespective of known risk factors, it may make sense to have a heart check-up depending on your life situation. We offer two different check-ups at the HerzKlinik.

Heart Check-Up Basic and Check-Up Plus are preventive examinations carried out on your own initiative. The costs of these check-ups are generally not covered by basic health insurance. However, the costs may partly be covered by supplementary insurance. Please contact your health insurance company to find out who is liable for the costs.

Check-Up Basic

The Heart Check-Up Basic starts with a personal medical history and a physical examination. A blood sample is then taken to assess various organ systems. Several medical tests are carried out to check the cardiovascular function: Blood pressure measurement, ECG at rest, cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) and an exercise ECG on the bicycle ergometer.

Check-Up Plus

The Check-Up Plus includes the same examinations as the Check-Up Basic. In addition, the following examinations are carried out: Pulmonary function test, ultrasound of the carotid artery and computer tomography of the heart.

Ultrasound examination of the carotid arteries to visualize possible stenosis or atherosclerotic changes to prevent strokes.

The neuroangiological examination of the extra- and intracranial vessels is carried out in collaboration with Dr. med. Roland Backhaus (FHM Neurology, Neurosono) and takes 1 – 1.5 hours.
